Construction Site Safety Management with Using AI

Construction site safety management with using AI

Construction sites have a high risk of accidents, so safety management is very important. A variety of cutting-edge AI technologies can be used to prevent  accidents by detecting and analyzing various risk factors at construction sites in real time.

Key technologies for construction site safety management using AI include the following.

1. Video analysis technology

Video analysis technology analyzes videos captured by CCTV or drones in real time to determine the risk of accidents such as workers not wearing safety helmets, construction equipment such as forklifts or cranes, risk of workers falling, entry into restricted areas, risk of fire or ignition, etc.

2. IOT sensor technology

Sensor technology connected to IOT devices detects dangerous situations by measuring the location of workers, operating status of construction equipment, and weather conditions in real time.

[Photo 1] LG U+, a telecommunications company, distributes various IOT devices and can charge communication fees and equipment rental fees of US$0.5 to US$10 per month. Services provided include AI helmet detection solution, AI forklift safety solution, analysis of AI driver behavior such as drowsiness or cell phone use, AI excavator safety, and detection of not wearing, AI safety equipment.

3. Machine learning technology

Machine learning technology analyzes past accident data, predicts accident types and risk factors, and suggests measures to prevent accidents.

Construction site safety management using AI has the following advantages.

(1) It is highly effective in preventing accidents. AI is highly effective in preventing accidents because it can detect hazards that can be missed by the human eye.

(2) The efficiency of safety management increases. AI can replace human labor and increase the efficiency of safety management.

(3) Increased transparency in safety management. AI helps to accurately identify the cause of an accident when an accident occurs.

At home and abroad, the number of cases of developing and applying construction site safety management technology using AI is increasing. Hyundai Engineering & Construction is developing and applying a system that detects the risk of collision between workers and construction equipment by analyzing CCTV footage. Samsung C&T is developing and applying a system that uses sensor technology to monitor workers' wearing safety helmets in real time.

AI is an innovative technology that can change the paradigm of construction site safety management. We hope that construction site safety management using AI will further develop and dramatically reduce accidents that occur at construction sites.

The AI image recognition solutions currently available from Myung Information Technology are as follows.

(1) In case of cameras embedded in automobiles or construction equipment, 5-channel equipment can be supplied at US$1,600

(2) AI wireless camera magnetically attachable

Although the magnetic camera is expensive at US$1,800, it can be easily attached to the back of construction equipment using a magnet and easily removed when the work is completed. It has the advantage of reducing labor costs for safety management personnel.

(4) Automatic worker body camera data backup and charging system available for US$500

When workers return the body cameras they wear, we have launched equipment that automatically backs up video data (US$500) and recharges the data. It can also automatically analyze statistics and risk factors using AI and measure workload.

The future outlook for construction site safety management using AI is as follows.

1. As AI technology develops, construction site safety management technology using AI will become more advanced.

2. As automation at construction sites progresses, the need for safety management using AI will increase.

3. As government policy support expands, the introduction of construction site safety management using AI will become more active.

Construction site safety management using AI is expected to protect the safety of workers working at construction sites and contribute to dramatically reducing accidents at construction sites.
